TI Turkey
TI-Turkey (Uluslararasi Seffaflik Dernegi) was founded in 2008 by voluntary efforts. The association aims to set the rule of transparency, integrity and accountability principles in all segments of the society for the democratic, social and economic development of the country.
TI-Turkey perceives corruption as a major source of social, economical and political crises and an obstacle on the way of economical development, rule of law, competitiveness and proper usage of natural resources.
TI-Turkey predicates on collaboration of public sector, businesses, unions, universities, professional chambers and non-governmental organizations in the scope of its anti-corruption efforts. It expects legibility, integrity, legal conformity, accountability and traceability from all individuals and institutions in society who constitutes the social structure and/or holds public power, and conducts its activities within the frame of these principles.
TRANSPARENCY INTERNATIONAL and Quest for Transparency in the World
TI -Turkey shares the principles and visions of Transparency International (TI). TI-Turkey is the national representative of TI, the global coalition against corruption which has national chapters in more than 90 countries. In this context, TI -Turkey takes part in international works such as Corruption Perception Index, Bribery Payers Index and Global Corruption Report. In addition, TI-Turkey puts direct inputs to TI Progress Reports on OECD Convention Enforcement. TI-Turkey also provides inputs to European Commission′s Progress Reports on Turkey through TI EU Office in Brussels.
TI-Turkey also plans developing educations; generating the database and creating a barometer by promoting awareness about corruption, developing of transparency standards with collaboration of institutions and NGOs on global and local level. TI -Turkey combats against essential and systematic factors of corruption; its activities do not carry detective mean; it does not expose names; open a case on corruption or focus on particular persons and institutions. Instead, TI -Turkey endeavours actualizing reforms and building up necessary mechanisms for enhancing civic courage and initiative.
PREVIOUS PROJECTS OF TI-TURKEY
Business Integrity Country Agenda Project seeks to create a relevant body of evidence on business integrity in a given country, a widely-shared agenda for reform, and a collective momentum for change towards more business integrity among key stakeholders. Project’s report details the key factors for business integrity in the country and the formation of a reform agenda utilizing the findings of the report that is inclusive and replicable.
National Integrity System Assessment – Turkey Project examines the formal framework and the actual institutional practice in terms of compliance with good governance principles and their roles in combating corruption.
Multistakeholder Approach for Transparency in Corportae Reporting Project aimed towards creation of a transparency index” for the private sector, this project localized the Transparency in Corporate Reporting research methodology created by TI for Turkey to analyze the current situation and compare the Turkish snapshot with the global results.
Effective Anti-Corruption Program for the Business Sector program has been launched to create an extensive anti-corruption program for the business sector to increase competitiveness and performance of businesses, and to create roadmaps that will facilitate institutionalization and accountability of the actors.
Strengthening Cooperation and Advocacy for Transparency and Accountability in Political Life Project examines political finance, focusing on electoral campaign and party funding, its oversight mechanisms, and the relations with the media in Turkey and in other select countries with a comparative research design.
Transparency in Media: Ethical Principles and Pledge for Media Coverage Project was a campaign addressing the importance of ethical media coverage during elections was developed and promoted online for public participation.
Empowered Media for Transparency Project aimed to increase the expertise of the Turkish media on issues such as impunity, legislation, international conventions and practices with regard to transparency, accountability, fight against corruption, and ethical reporting.
Comparative Indicator based Monitoring of Anti Corruption Progress (CIMAP) The project, which was a brief assessment of 2010, was also a benchmark study, assessing how Turkey performed in areas, such as, transparency, integrity and accountability compared to minimum standards in these areas.
Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre Project (ALAC) The ALAC project aimed to provide a platform for members of the public who had faced unlawful treatment or witnessed illegal activities.
Young Ethics Project: The main objective of the Young Ethics Project is to educate youth on the notion of ethics. Transparent Society Project required university students to publish a quarterly periodical on the concepts of transparency, integrity and accountability, organize open forums on issues adressed in the periodical and prepare an interview with experts on these issues to be aired on the Open Radio (Açık Radyo) every week.
Young Media and New Media Projects serves to increase the involvement of university students and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) to reach out to more people, especially the youth. The publication of the periodical and the public discussions continued under the premises of these projects.
Ethics Children Project is an attempt at creation of an ethics curriculum for the 2013 academic year with a multi-disciplinary approach. The curriculum embraced an “educating the educators” method; and to that end, workshops were designed for both teachers and students. The values and concepts were analyzed from a philosophical point of view; notions of inquiry and creative and critical thinking were emphasized in the curriculum.
