The solution responding current crisis in Turkey can be found by bringing more transparency to public life, not less!
Threats and blocks against freedom of expression and access to information reached an alarming level. These worrying developments destroys the fundamental principles of democracy and thereby removes the transparency in every segment of society and governance and also brings about serious concerns for all individuals and civil society organisations demanding transparency.
Twitter blockout in Turkey is a blow to freedom of expression and access to information, and it is unacceptable! The path preventing Turkey from turning into an opaque state and securing the principle of the rule of law is more transparency in public life.
As TI Turkey we are now calling Turkish authorities to abolish this ban, and we remind that transparency is a priority for democratic, social and economic development of the country.
