TI-Turkey Chair is now a board member of Transparency International!

Oya Özarslan have been elected to the Transparency International board, a leading anti-corruption organization, at the Annual Membership Meeting, which was held on the 14-15th of October 2017 in Berlin. She is the first person from Turkey to be elected to the international board of the organization in its 25 years history.

The elections took place as representatives of more than 100 chapters, the movement’s Advisory Council and individual members came together for the Annual Membership Meeting to discuss their work around the world  and solutions to the crucial problem. 16 candidates ran for the board position and having the support of the international community, Oya Özarslan was elected with the 2nd highest votes of the movement.

In her speech, Özarslan declared that, “Corruption have crossed national borders and became and global problem. International financial system is used by the global corruption and resources of poor countries are taken outside their borders to the offshore countries. We must increase the global solidarity and use the methods that is collectively pursued by the citizens of the world”. Overall, she talked about corruption and democracy together with globalization issues.

Oya Özarslan is the founder and the chair of Transparency International Turkey and currently conducts the initiatives on the transparency and integrity standards in the public and private sectors, civil society and media. As a law graduate of Ankara University and Texas University, she is registered at the bar of Istanbul and New York and she is an international lawyer and a compliance consultant.

Having given official consultations on areas as the European Union, GRECO, UNCAC and OECD Conventions, Oya Özarslan was the co-chair of the Governance Working Group during the G20 2015 Turkish presidency. She gives seminars on transparency for business and gives training on the issue of fraud and data protection in the private sector. Several publications of Oya Özarslan covers, amongst the others, the issues of business integrity, corruption prone areas, political party financing and good governance.
